Cabrillo Marine Aquarium Field Trip:

Location: Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, 3720 Stephen White Drive, San Pedro, California USA 90731

You can get more information about the location of the aquarium and other visitor information by visiting CMA's website: http://www.cabrilloaq.org/

Aquarium hours: Tuesday through Friday - 12 noon to 5 pm.
Saturday and Sunday - 10 am to 5 pm.
Closed Mondays, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Admission is free though we suggest a donation of: $5 adults, $1 children and seniors.
Cabrillo Beach parking: Free on weekdays November 1 through February 28. $7 per car on weekends and March 1 through October 31.

It takes approximately 1 hour to drive to CMA from Valencia.  Please give yourselves enough time to get there and drive safely.  You can check the traffic conditions online before you leave so that you are aware of any traffic accidents or problems ahead of time.  A helpful site to visit for traffic reports is: www.sigalert.com

Date: Sunday, Nov. 5
Time: 12:30pm-3:30pm

Schedule:
-
Meet at the entrance to the museum (to the left of the wall shown in the picture below) at 12:30pm.
- Check in with me when you arrive and pick up a copy of the handout you need to complete during the trip.  I will stand at the entrance to the museum for a while and check off your names from my attendance sheet as you arrive.
- Explore the museum on your own, observe the displays, fill out the question sheet.
- I will be walking around, answering any questions you have.
- Meet back in front of the museum entrance at 2:00pm sharp so that we can walk over to the tidepool area.
- Explore the tidepools for about an hour.

If you cannot attend the field trip with the rest of the class on the scheduled day, you may attend on one of the following days (note the times listed indicate low tide; you should arrange your trip so that you visit the tidepools either slightly before, or during this time):

11/4 – 2:20pm
11/7 – 4:45pm
11/8 – 5:40pm

The aquarium sometimes arranges a guided tidepool trip (I think it costs $1) on the weekends when there is low tide.

Suggested Attire/Things to bring:
- Wear comfortable outdoor shoes with a non-skid sole (you may get a bit wet walking around, so you may want to bring a change of shoes)
- Bring something to write with and something to write on.
- Bring a camera if you like taking pictures.

Important Announcements:
- Mention to the parking attendant (at the entrance) that you are with the College of the Canyons group so that your parking fee can be waived.

- You can access a copy of the question sheet that you need to fill out by clicking here.  I will have hard copies of this handout with me on Sunday, but if you are going to go on the field trip on your own, be sure to print out a copy of this handout and bring it with you to complete.
